It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you to our school. East Montpelier Elementary School (EMES) opened its’ doors in 1965, the consolidation of six smaller schools. The EMES experience is characterized by a teaching staff dedicated to a highly personalized atmosphere for students. At EMES, students in grades pre-K through 6th enjoy a talented staff and dedicated support staff. While striving for academic excellence we also believe strongly in the importance of social and emotional development.
Students who visit with me in the office quickly learn that coming in to see me is much more about solving problems, sharing successes, getting help with a project or just sharing a piece of work than it is about being “in trouble”. When problems do arise, when a student makes a bad choice or is struggling with something, these are great learning opportunities. While there are consequences for the choices that we make, learning from our actions helps us to grow. Our mantra of, “SAFE, KIND, RESPECTFUL ADDS UP TO RESPONSIBLE” guides all of us in our decision making and holds each of us accountable to each other.
An integral part of EMES is our community. Without our families and the greater community we couldn’t begin to serve our students at the high level of expectation that we strive for.
