The WCUUSD Board has voted to offer Mr. Steven Dellinger-Pate the superintendent’s position pending successful contract negotiations.  He will begin the position on July 1, 2024.  Dellinger-Pate will succeed Dr. Meagan Roy who has served as superintendent since 2022.

“I’m excited to serve WCUUSD in this new role,” said Dellinger-Pate. “It’s my hope that my commitment to and experience with WCUUSD for the past decade as U-32 Principal will provide a smooth transition. WCUUSD continues to be a strong district and is well positioned for the future. I commend Dr. Roy and the Board for their important work to prepare us for next steps. I’m committed to working with the entire Washington Central school community for the benefit of all our children. I very much look forward to getting started.”

A resident of Barre, Dellinger-Pate is a twenty-seven year veteran educator who came to Washington Central in 2014 from Connecticut, where he had served as a teacher and administrator. A Texas native, he completed his undergraduate work at Texas A & M University and a Masters Degree in Mathematics from Southern Connecticut State University. He also completed an advanced graduate certificate at Southern Connecticut University in Educational Leadership.

WCUUSD Board Chair Flor Diaz-Smith warmly welcomed Dellinger-Pate as incoming Superintendent.  “Steven’s commitment to Washington Central as U32 Principal for the past decade is well established.  He’s recognized across Vermont as a leader among principals and the Board has confidence in Steven’s skills and readiness for our superintendency.  Our district has important work ahead and Steven’s knowledge of and familiarity with WCUUSD will be a genuine asset to his entry as Washington Central’s Superintendent.  We’ll will benefit from sustained superintendent leadership and the Board looks forward to working with him.”

Mr. Dellinger-Pate’s pending appointment completes a two-month process which included a national search, interactions with a board-appointed twelve person screening and interview committee, a video question and answer session, a day long visit to all WCUUSD schools, a site visit, a community greet-and-meet culminating with an interview before the Board.  Staff, students, parents and citizens provided input on the finalists to the Board.

Our Community

Washington Central serves the five rural towns that surround Montpelier, Vermont’s state capital, with U-32 as our Middle School and High School. The towns – Berlin, Calais, East Montpelier, Middlesex and Worcester – are all classic, close-knit New England villages. The presence of state government, the home office of a national financial services company, a variety of post-secondary educational institutions, and a relatively well-educated population ensure that our students have many educational, social, and cultural opportunities.
